In Melbourne, representatives from trade unions in Denmark, Argentina, Australia, and Belgium met to discuss the progress of the nomination dossier. In addition to the substantive meetings, we were given a tour of the impressive Victorian Trades Hall, one of the oldest trade union buildings in the world. The building is still used today by various trade union organizations.
We also visited Broken Hill, a remote mining town in the Australian outback, where the trade union movement long dominated professional and social life. After a visit to the local Trades Hall, we enjoyed a warm reception with the mayor and aldermen, a tour of the outback, and a traditional Australian barbecue. Finally, we had the opportunity to introduce the Vooruit Party Hall to the local Broken Hill community.
It was an unforgettable week, full of new impressions and inspiring encounters. Here's to World Heritage recognition in 2027!
