September is Organized Labour Month on Wikipedia
In September 2026, an international campaign regarding the labor movement and trade unions is running on Wikipedia: WikiProject Organized Labor Month. On the Dutch-language Wikipedia, too, a whole month is being dedicated to writing and working on trade unions, the labor movement, and related themes.
That field is broad. Think of the history of trade unions and strikes, labor law and the right to strike, but also child labor, women's emancipation, and the role of women in the labor movement. In addition to writing new Wikipedia articles, participants can improve existing pages, add sources, make images available via Wikimedia Commons, or supplement data on Wikidata.
On September 28, Amsab-ISG is joining this international campaign with its own Wiki-edit-a-thon, focused on our own sources and collections regarding the Belgian workers', women's, and other social movements.
How can you participate?
During the edit-a-thon at Amsab-ISG, you can get started in two ways:
1. Create a new Wikipedia page
We pre-select a number of key individuals and organizations from the Belgian labor, women's, and other social movements that have a link to the trade union movement but do not yet have their own Wikipedia page.
As a starting point, we use records from ODIS, a knowledge platform about the history of Flanders and Belgium in the 19th and 20th centuries. The Amsab-ISG team has added thousands of contributions about trade union organizations and individuals to the database. With your help, this information can also find its way to Wikipedia.
This information can be further supplemented with, for example, trade union journals, conference reports, scientific literature, and other material from the Amsab-ISG collection.
2. Improve an existing Wikipedia page
You can also review, correct, and supplement existing Wikipedia pages about people, organizations, and themes from the labor movement.
This can be done by adding missing information from the Amsab-ISG collection, better substantiating claims with scientific literature and information from ODIS files, and correcting source references where necessary.
Practical
The WikiEditAthon takes place on Monday, September 28, 2026, from 16 to 19 pmin Amsab-ISG, Bagattenstraat 174, 9000 Ghent.
Participation is free, but Pre-registration is mandatory.
To provide sufficient guidance, the number of participants is limited to 20 people.

We provide reliable source material, documentation, and the necessary guidance. Experience with Wikipedia is not necessary.
We also provide drinks and small snacks during the session.
