Great news: Vooruit Festival Hall has officially been added to the UNESCO World Heritage candidate list! A milestone for this Ghent heritage site and the power of solidarity. The final decision will be made in the summer of 2027.

The nomination of Feestlokaal Vooruit is a wonderful recognition of this iconic Ghent heritage site and the power of solidarity. The building is a brilliant example of how cooperatives propelled the labor movement and democratic ideals in the early 20th century. Thousands of workers gathered there to advocate for social rights and enjoy affordable cultural facilities. The influence of the Vooruit cooperative extended far beyond our national borders—and the cooperative spirit is now firmly back.

Amsab-ISG collaborated on the nomination and framed the unique historical value of Feestlokaal Vooruit within the international network of Workers' Assembly Halls. This network, coordinated by the Danish Arbejdersmuseet (Arbejdersmuseet), unites community centers from three countries in a shared commitment to recognizing the social role that community centers have played worldwide and the unique architecture they showcased.

UNESCO's final decision is expected in the summer of 2027.
