For his research, Roelens spent years studying legal, literary, religious, and artistic sources to investigate the prosecution of sodomy in the Southern Netherlands. This allowed him to map the pattern of these prosecutions and shed light on how society at the time viewed this "offense." Was there, for example, class justice? And why were more people prosecuted in the Southern Netherlands during this period than in other parts of Western Europe? During the lecture, you will gain insight into the answers to these questions and discover more about this often-overlooked piece of history.
After the lecture, there will be an opportunity to purchase the book. We look forward to welcoming you.
