During the First World War, 1,5 million Belgians fled the violence of war. According to the In Flanders Fields Museum, every Belgian today has a flight story in his or her family history and municipality.
Are you also curious about this underexposed Belgian migration history? How can we find out the story of the person behind the numbers? Do you want to investigate the flight story of your family or your municipality? Then this workshop is for you!
During this training you will be given tools to investigate the escape stories of the First World War.
The first part explains the most important sources, which can be found in archives and documentation centres. In the second part we take you to the personal experiences of these Belgian refugees.
This training is organized by Stories and the In Flanders Fields Museum. Amsab-ISG is one of the five locations in Flanders where this training takes place. More information about the project can be found here find back.
