To accommodate our ever-growing collection, Amsab-ISG is drastically expanding its storage capacity. This week, the Amsab team moved part of the collection.

To mark the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Amnesty International , in collaboration with Amsab-ISG, is organizing a walk through Ghent on December 6th . During the walk, various speakers will discuss monuments and special places or symbols of human rights and their importance.

We recently organized two focus groups . On Friday, September 29th, we met with one of our key stakeholders, our archive creators . On October 25th, we sat down with several young people who, as former volunteers or interns at Amsab-ISG, provided input on our outreach activities.

The Flemish government has decided on the budgets that will be allocated to the cultural sector over the next five years. This will free up more subsidies for the cultural sector.

Human Rights Study Day

On Saturday, October 7, 2023, the Institute for Philosophical and Social Science Education (Ifese), in collaboration with Amsab-ISG, is organizing a study afternoon  on human rights in our public space .

Esperantism

In 2019, the Cesar Vanbiervliet Esperanto Fund presented us with a collection of magazines in Esperanto : an artificial, international language developed in 1887. From these, we selected magazines published by various international socialist and communist Esperanto organizations.

Jef Ulburghs

Amsab-ISG maintains a large photo collection, including photos of the green movement. More than 800 of these photos from the political party Agalev have now been digitized and made accessible at the individual item level.

The seventh volume of the Journal for the History of Environment and Society (JHES) has been published.

Amnesty International and Amsab-ISG offered a free exhibition on Syrian embroidery during the Ghent Festivities.

Ministers in Belgium archive their electronic communications on USB sticks. Apache spoke about this with several archivists, including Martijn Vandenbroucke , collections management coordinator at Amsab-ISG.

On March 22, 2023, we launched the Oral History Learning Network . More than one hundred people attended the kick-off event, organized by Amsab-ISG and FARO, in collaboration with the Red Star Line Museum, CAG, and the Industrial Museum.

Flanders Marine Institute recently began collaborating. On May 31st, we went on a joint survey at the Natuurpunt Museum in Turnhout.

Since last year, Natuurpunt and Amsab-ISG have been collaborating on a project focusing on Natuurpunt's pioneers and predecessors . Natuurpunt volunteers will also conduct interviews with local pioneers. They received a digital oral history course from Amsab-ISG for this purpose.

Poster Prize Liberal Humanism

On Wednesday, June 21, Patsy Sörensen and Payoke the Liberal Humanism Award for their lifelong commitment to the rights of vulnerable and oppressed people, particularly those of prostitutes and victims of human trafficking. Amsab-ISG maintains this archive.

The digital city map Ghent Mapped compiles 20 historical maps and connects them to 4,000 locations and 10,000 heritage sites. Amsab-ISG is collaborating on this project.

The Humanities Academy (Ghent University) is organizing the lecture series " Borderless Greek: Wanderings of Greek People, Language, and Culture ," a series in collaboration with the Greece Center, in which they explore the footprints of Greeks outside Greece.

The Cousins ​​Show

Amsab-ISG and the Suzanne De Pues Foundation have signed a partnership agreement to further develop the collection of the Suzan Daniel Fund , the LGBTQ+ and trans* archive and documentation center . Lex Van Cauwenberge is a new collaborator.
