ODIS meeting day

Heritage workers, researchers, and other interested parties will be introduced to the database, the ODIS team, and ongoing projects. As a founding partner, Amsab-ISG will present, among other things, the input of biographical files into ODIS.

Digidaar celebrates two years of project work with a festive closing event at the Meubelfabriek, during the Ghent BOM Festival. After the exhibitions in the virtual museum, you can also discover the work of artists in residence Fatemeh and Radwin there in real life, or join in the graffiti jam by DemaOne yourself. Meanwhile, Club Hshouma provides live music and a turntablist jam.

The history of the social welfare state seems more relevant than ever. From Bart De Wever's recent book to Paul Magnette's reply: the search for the roots must bring us closer to a vision of the future. During this evening of debate, authors will Bart Van de Putte en Eric M. van der Ven, who both recently published a book in which this history is central, in conversation with each other.

In the analog era, photographs were often captured on glass plates, which could later be developed or projected. Fragile in form, yet remarkably sharp and rich in detail. The exhibition (Un)exposed offers a unique and often intimate glimpse into daily life from the late 19th century to the mid-20th century, immortalized on these unique heritage objects.

Since January, our current resident at Digidaar has been the artist Radwan. On March 26 he presents the result of his work: VoemTropy.

For this online exhibition, Radwan used collage to symbolize the origins of Voem as a 'Big Bang', resulting in a universe of fragmented artworks.

Poster International Conference on Displaced Persons

In Flanders Fields Museum - Ypres

From 26 to 28 March 2026, the In Flanders Fields Museum will organize the international multi-day conference DisplacedThe conference is based on the eponymous research project and accompanying exhibition. During the conference, experts and researchers will explore various aspects of displacement, flight, and exile during the First World War.

The focus is on the largest exodus in Belgian history: the mass flight of civilians in 1914. At the same time, the conference broadens its scope to include other histories of flight in Europe, both during and shortly after the war. In this way, the conference places the Belgian story within a broader international perspective. Martine Vermandere, public relations coordinator at Amsab-ISG, is one of the speakers at the conference.

On Wednesday, May 28, the new online database will be launched in the public area of ​​Amsab-ISG Brigadistas from Belgium This website contains biographical information on more than two thousand volunteers who served in the Spanish Civil War between 1936 and 1939. The database was compiled by researchers Rudi Van Doorslaer and François Van Pelt using unique information from Spanish and Russian collections, among others.

This exhibition was the result of a collaboration between Amnesty International Ghent region, the School of Arts/HOGENT, the Human Rights Research Network, Justice Visions, and Amsab-ISG.

The exhibition Embroidered Past, Imagined Future in Congo at Amsab-ISG offered an impressive overview of the work of Congolese artist Lucie Kamuswekera, who depicts Congo's turbulent history with her embroidery.
