The events of May 1968 in Paris sent shockwaves through Western Europe. But in July 1968, everything seemed to remain the same in Ghent: the traditional Ghent Festivities continued as usual. Amsab-ISG is presenting an exhibition to commemorate the Festivities.

Juul Vandevelde has long been photographing Ghent in its festive mood. The exhibition "July '68" presents a selection of photos he took 50 years ago. The photographer captured the festive atmosphere on film: on the Kouter, the crowd admires an impressive line of majorettes, on the Sarma, state musicians try to entice the passing public into a small contribution, and on corners and squares, the young people who would give the Ghent Festivities a different character in the years to come gather.
