Pioneers of modern photography

In the 1920s and 1930s, Cami and Sasha Stone played a prominent role in the artistic world. Their work appeared in leading magazines and was shown in exhibitions from Berlin to Brussels.

Their studio – Studio Stone – specialized in advertising, architecture, art, and portrait photography . Their groundbreaking style earned them widespread critical acclaim. In their heyday, they were compared to photographers like André Kertész, Germaine Krull, László Moholy-Nagy , and Man Ray .

Yet, after World War II, they largely disappeared from view. Until now.

A fresh look at a versatile oeuvre

This exhibition showcases a selection of Cami and Sasha Stone's best work from Amsab-ISG's own collection . You'll discover, among other things:

  • Industrial and architectural photographs with a keen eye for form and composition

  • Portraits of artists, scientists and politicians from their time

  • Artistic snapshots of daily life in the interbellum period

  • Printed publications and political posters that show their committed side

The exhibition shows how the duo effortlessly transitioned between commercial assignments, artistic expression, and social engagement . And how their studio grew into a place of innovation and experimentation.
