Ayşe Işçi, chair of DHKD, delved deeper into DHKD's history and impact in our contribution. Her presentation advocated for the preservation and transmission of migration history. Martine Vermandere, public relations coordinator at Amsab-ISG, discussed the creation of the exhibition, which ran in our public space from May 8 to October 27, 2023. What made this project unique was its genuine co-creation. Negotiations with the pioneers and young people of DHKD focused not only on the content but also on the design of the exhibition.
Sustainability is essential in all our projects, and this was certainly the case here: not only has the archive been made accessible and available in the public catalog, but the cassettes and videos have also been digitized in various formats. The history and context of our Ghent migration archives are better known, and a valuable online educational package has been developed with a broader perspective on the themes of education, anti-racism, and migration policy. Moreover, this intensive process has strengthened our confidence in participatory work.
The Day of Ghent Historical Research is organised by STAM and the Society for History and Archaeology Ghent (MGOG).
