On April 30th, FARO's Oral History Learning Network will delve deeper into the role of volunteers in oral history projects. Amsab staff member Martine Vermandere will share her experiences in this area.

We focus on sharing experiences: What are good practices? But also: what went wrong? What can we learn from this? For which aspects of an oral history project can volunteers be involved? Can anyone volunteer in any oral history project? How does a heritage organization train volunteers? Are there minimum quality requirements for volunteer work? And how do you guarantee these?

Martine Vermandere tells us how Amsab-ISG has deployed its (regular) volunteers in various oral history projects over the past few years. Hilke Arijs (Erfgoedcel Denderland) adds her experience from a heritage unit. Afterwards, there will be an intervision session for questions and discussion among all participants. This way, we'll gather tips and tricks about working with volunteers in oral history projects, which will later be shared through the Heritage Guide.
