A few months after Amsab-ISG published a book about the ACOD, the General Federation of Public Services, we are once again publishing a book about the same union.
This is the story of ACOD-VRT, of the unionists trying to keep VRT afloat. It's the life story of Luk Vandenhoeck, a unionist and Marxist, an ACOD delegate at VRT, and retired since 2017. Vandenhoeck tells the story of the union from the bottom up, from the shop floor, as a story of people and actions, of struggle, but also of success.
Vandenhoeck's story touches on serious issues, such as layoffs, budget cuts, threats to the status of workers and their replacement by contract workers, workload, and the need for rejuvenation, democratic participation, and training. But we also read about the adventures of the giant Kazimir (named after VRT boss Cas Goossens), a revolution in Thessaloniki, Syndicalism 2.0, and the VRT "Explodes" protest.
The book "Witnesses: Luk Vandenhoeck,
on the Barricades at VRT" (Amsab-ISG,
2024) by Gert Verdonck is 111 pages long
and richly illustrated.
It can be ordered for €15
through the Amsab-ISG webshop.
