In 2019, the Cesar Vanbiervliet Esperanto Fund presented us with a collection of magazines in Esperanto: an artificial, international language developed in 1887. From these, we selected magazines published by various international socialist and communist Esperanto organizations. 'Laboristoj de la mondo, unuiĝu!': new magazines on laborer Esperantism in the Amsab-ISG collection. The donation from the Cesar Vanbiervliet Fund is a wonderful addition to our collection. Laborer Esperantism aimed to use Esperanto as a universal language among workers to promote international communication and unite the working class worldwide. For those who are proficient in the language, these magazines contain a wealth of information about this movement. Our volunteers Katja, Hans, Yvette, and Willem from the Ghent Esperanto group "La Progreso" dedicated five months to describing the more than 70 titles in this acquisition. Since August, you can find the magazines in our catalog and browse them in our reading room. To explore our complete Esperanto collection, you can filter your search results by language. For more information on the history of workers' Esperanto, Alberto Fernández wrote an article about it for our magazine, Brood & Rozen, in 1998.
