A unique look at 60 years of migration and community building

Migration is more than just a search for work or a new life. It's a process of community building, cultural preservation, and ultimately, renewal. In " 60 Years of Migration, 30 Years of Connection ," Hümeyra Cetinel offers a unique insight into the social life of people with migration roots in Flanders through twelve in-depth interviews with pioneers, second-generation migrants, and experts.

From conservation to connection

The book combines historical insights with personal stories and highlights the evolution of ethnic-cultural associations. While the first generations focused primarily on cultural preservation and identity, later generations broadened their perspective. Young organizations today are committed to education, sports, arts, culture, and activism. They build bridges within and beyond their communities and actively contribute to a diverse society.

Hümeyra Cetinel emphasizes: "Much has already been said about migration. This book is unique because it focuses not on the journey itself, but on the social life of the first migrants and that of their children and grandchildren." From the first modest gatherings to the dynamic organizations of today, this book paints a nuanced picture of how migration has shaped not only individuals, but society as a whole.
